I use arch btw

When I was into MMOs years ago I played its beta. I found it busy, minigame driven, lacking in dead time necessary for social interaction, and a bit ugly. The classes didn’t grab me either, they felt very samey.
Nothing like EQ where a bard can be kiting all around a zone, a wizard teleporting people around, rogues and necros helping people grab corpses etc.
I also very much enjoy stuff, or I did when I played, like in EQ where the world is extremely unfair and hostile. Modern MMOs are too much like fairgrounds. They’re afraid to tell you no or let you make bad decisions.
MMOs that have been better are things MUDs, EQ, Darkfall, eve (not by thing but amazing), OSRS (very single player now but when it was just runescape 1 and 2 it was neat), and mortal online.
Happiness writes white, if a game won’t let you get in over your head, lose things, and have a genuinely bad and frustrating time then the illusion of a world shatters and it becomes just another sort or masturbation

I dunno, it’s pretty and braindead and you can explore stuff and roleplay.
I am not a big mmo person generally but most of the “better” games I’ve tried and overstimulating and exhausting. I used to like everquest a lot, and there’s still a lot other games don’t do better imho. I still get lost in some of everquest’s cities and dungeons when I load up p99 but that doesn’t happen in more polished games.
People spend monthly on things all the time for enjoyment. Freemium games are full of dark patterns (honestly modern wow is a bit too but a lot less than some), single player are excellent value for money sure but also not very social. Running servers does cost money and it sort of sucks, they are profiting but so are freemium products and shit. Community run MMOs are rare and awesome treasures to preserve, they still cost too though since if you don’t donate they die or you’re just leaching off people who do.
I don’t think wow is a terrible game, it’s just different. The people that make up the community suck though :(

on even their own economic rules tell them why it will fail 🙄 in c/onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2d ago
Companies don’t think.
Employees are thinking “I like my job/it pays the bills/my coworkers are fun/it’s an interesting problem/the nerd rapture is here”
Bosses are thinking “This gets me fat stacks”
Investors are thinking “This will get me stupidly fat stacks, and if it causes social problems I won’t bear the cost”
Also everyone is thinking “me not doing this just means it happens anyway but I don’t benefit”
Read Marx, like I’m not shitposting. If you want to understand why these traps happen and why capitalism keeps going here read Marx. You don’t need to 100% agree with him but the economic analysis is invaluable.

At this point I think privacy is just a myth.
This is the cop in your head to kill. State surveillance capabilities are limited. While in theory it’s difficult to block targetted surveillance the key is to avoid being targetted by blending in.
James Micken’s model of mosad and not mossad threats apply. If a state turns its gaze on you, you will lose. However passive dragnet methods to try and decide who to turn the eye of Sauron on can be hidden from.

Anything that has an electrical property change when vibrating can be a microphone.

I wasn’t sure, the gui is nicer in some ways but defs less direct and given that you said “terminal is more direct” I thought you were using the gui because you hadn’t made some simple helper scripts for searching the database quickly

I use bazzite on my BC250 console but bazzite’s package management is horrible lmao.
It’s good for something you install and never touch but not adequate for general purpose computing.
Pacman is an amazing package manager, dnf is probably better but inertia has me prefer pacman. The rest suck

pacman can list all packages and their description, then you just grep for key words

on A touch of AI is all it takes to trigger backlash, as a promising new indie falls afoul of slop skeptics in c/gaming@beehaw.org · 26 Aug 2026
There’s a fictional world in which these machine learning techniques are developed on submissions that are volunteered, rollout is socially and politically responsible, control and means of production are democratised, and development is guided by public interest.
Unfortunately we don’t live in that world and I think given the one we live in it’s actually completely reasonable to find the outputs repulsive.

The stuff generated by these things is always so generic anyway, like it seems superficially different because it’s inhuman but it’s all different in the same way.
You never get the cool stuff like the trolls that you’re fighting actually being anarcho-syndicalists struggling to raise protection money to pay off an evil wizard because someone was put on the spot while in a silly mood and started riffing.

Also you could write down the artist’s name and that way there’s at least the possibility that someone might commission them or purchase art if they like the style.
I don’t know why you’re trying to sell it. I don’t play MMOs anymore except some p99 very rarely.
I just don’t think wow is a terrible game. It’s not for me, but all modern MMOs are awful anyway.
