Current state that I understand, and am certainly no expert, is that privacy and battery preservation focus have it not designed to constantly ping and check for updates as much as larger as and data-based for-profit systems. Looks like it’s been requested as a feature but who can say whether it gets implemented as it grows. One of its strengths is that it runs fully offline also.
To be sure, despite definite momentum and growth as apple and Google make product-destructive decisions to curry political favor with a fascist, open source programs will need more user growth to have the base where they could have the data points to even consider offering traffic routing as a layer.

Oregon DMV was one of the many MoveIt breach targets and all that juicy bio data (eye, hair, height, complexion, attached to DOB) is now floating in the ether. Probably my most frustrating breach notification. Can’t even really sue my state despite their complicit incompetence.
So thrilled about my 12 months of data theft protection I was provided that ended several years ago. I assume data thieves stoped all activity with it long ago.

CoMaps is Apple/Google app store, open source, privacy centric Map app with turn by turn, lots of customization, and also has desktop clients for Linux and iOS.

For android users recommend CoMaps, or “OSMand”, both are open source and privacy focused. Both use openstreetmaps data, CoMaps just have what I think is a cleaner interface. Both have offline maps, turn-by-turn navigation and frankly a lot more customization since it’s not corporate owned. No ads, and no businesses who pay being stuffed in your eyes first when maps load.
Both are much improved since trying to ditch maps a few years ago and basic local business info wasn’t available, now it looks to be much improved and it’s a great time to jump.

The cost in electronic services is in acquisition; the nominal cost to deliver services to a paying subscriber is lower than acquiring a new one.
Yes you would flatten your margin with existing customers by not hiking their rates (or not as much) but pretending there won’t be defection assumes near monopoly–which the US has permitted largely for the last 4 decades.
Cell phone companies made it super easy to leave by only offering good discounts to new customers.

The airlines do fine; they sell miles/points to banks who actually have money. Almost all US carriers are worth little or negative but their rewards programs have large valuations.
If you pay your bills in full and don’t pay interest you are beating the system, and it is “OMG free flights”/hotels/cash. You do give away tons of purchase info but you’re giving that away anyway unless you’re using cash.

I haven’t paid for a plane ticket since 2012. Made a huge hobby of credit card churning. Probably flew 200k miles on them. Otherwise I’d be skiplagging as the next best option.

Sounds like a big painting brush toward profit and Microsoft had the usual shit communication and execution.
More to the point though, this is the fundamental lesson many people who say they went to business school or are IT experts are apparently now learning; if it’s not free and open source you can’t depend on it staying that way and the last 10 years has been a sprint to enshittify. Why someone in IT would base their entire storage and archive practice on the assumption a paid service or grant will remain free through grants, when there is no money to go around to pivot the org is naive at best. I see these as the same type who will rail against inequality, fascism, etc. and then be on Twitter and Facebook. The nobler aspects of man cannot coexist alongside boundless greed and fascism. Move early or be prepared to “be shocked” when structural inevitability comes.
Libre Office and countless other options are out there, just waiting to be adopted. The cells have been made very comfortable by our jailers, but the keys are right there if you want freedom.

That and the entire purpose of AI is to reduce agency, which is arguably the single most important factor in job–if not life–satisfsction.
It’s like being shackled to an annoying and incompetent younger cousin for a summer and being held responsible for all the problems they cause while they reap all praise and rewards for anything they happen to do right. Your parents float the idea of adopting the cousin and disowning you. Oh, and the cousin’s parents are yhe Koch brothers.
