• Anecdotal but my phone battery life has been greatly improved since I disabled Google Maps. I was hitting the 20% warning routinely before end of day previously, and now I typically have 30-40% when I plug it in at night.

  On a related note, MapQuest offers Android Auto integration, and the turn-by-turn experience has been adequate in my admittedly limited testing.
