It’s not a genre, it’s a medium. And most of the bad stereotypes of anime are only universal in a certain awful genre or two.

Ignoring that it factually doesn’t do that, most anime isn’t loli bait. There is a lot of pure art that even the most boring, milquetoast drone of a person (edit: that wasn’t meant to be in reference to loli, but to all the quirks of anime to do need some getting used to) could enjoy.

It’s peak hate watch material. It’s world building is ass, it’s character writing is worse, the animation is mid (yes, even for the time), and it somehow eclipsed vastly better shows of the time.
If the anime industry learned from Log Horizon or Grimgar instead we’d be in such a better place.

I mean, duh, anime is just better. That said, this isn’t good news. Maybe this ship has already sailed, but when things get popular sharks start circling and everything good is kvlled in favor of profits. TTRPGs got big, now everything orbits the worst parts of the industry (dnd and the games made in direct reaction to it).
