• Thanks, I hate it.

  Desktop works do well because it is a canvas of varying sizes where you can spread out your work. Overlapping windows and tiling are both great for me because they serve different functions and I like using either depending on context. This was a lot of examples of the types of ‘helping’ that apple does which I hate. Just let me see and interact with things.

  A note about change that works for others but not me: Windows turning the list of apps off start to a search. Fuck that bullshit, I don’t remember the namd of evert app but give me a list of names or icons and I can find it in a second.

  It is fine if someone else likes it, great for them.

  Human review isn’t doing shit to avoid the inherent problem with the system. This is just the new version of red light cameras, which are also unreliable and incentivize punitive fines.

• Yeah, for me windows just works although with a few annoying nags but not enough to make the effort to switch feel worth it. I was going to buy some new drives to make the switch easy but then prices skyrocketed and I don’t want to pay those prices.

• The school has far fewer land lines and support staff than they did when I went to school and parents are already used to making contact via phones and other devices. They will be getting a ton of calls and kids trying to call out. They will adapt eventually, but it will start off as a shitshow.

  On top of that they had the ability to check in an out of classes and a ton of other stuff using phones that will no longer be an option. They have inconvenient workarounds, but the transition for those is gonna be a shitshow too.

  Yes, people in general prefer bland and easy to follow stories. I would bet the majority of participants in the study don’t normally read short stories since moat people don’t read for enjoyment. Blockbusters and the vast majority of popular movies follow predictable story beats in a clear and accessible way. Same is true for books.

  AI is the McDonald’s of writing and that isn’t a point in its favor unless all we care about is mass consumption of regurgitated and reworded stories humans wrote originally.
