Game development is mostly programming
Is it though? Especially when you’re making use of an existing engine.

My banking app has a “is <bank> calling?” button, which is pretty neat. The button is highlighted whenever I open the banking app whilst on a phone call, presumably as a subtle anti-scammer warning.

One way the Chinese government is “subsidizing” their cars is by suppressing the living standards of its people.
That and their industry doesn’t appear to be as bloated and shareholder-driven.

These services generally do warn you months in advance. Though I cannot say from experience, I think it most unlikely sony sent nothing to the user.

on The new data transmission permissions [for Firefox addons] seem to be misleading to users in c/technology@lemmy.world · 13 Sep 2026
I was curious what that was:
you can keep the old version, or you can check “disable vote submission” in settings. (counting your like\dislike votes is the evil “personal data transfer” that I do. But it’s optional.

on Chrome again exempts Google from user site data settings in c/technology@lemmy.world · 8 Sep 2026
The more I think about this, the more I think it’s a really big problem how much Web surfing runs on Chromium.
It’s why I think Firefox (and forks) are the only real alternative to chrome. Switching to edge, Vivaldi, opera, Helium, brave; none of it truly gets you away from google’s dominance.
I suppose there’s always safari/webkit too, but that’s apple. -

Oh, yes. If I mention that “well you’ve made an account before” they will immediately be convinced.
I am still going to try, don’t take my prior comment as me throwing in the towel, but the chances are slim I’ll be able to convince all the people I’d want to. And even if they make an account, chances are they’ll rarely boot up the app and forget about it.
Discord has a certain critical mass that will be difficult to beat.

on Firefox is now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin in c/technology@lemmy.world · 16 Aug 2026
Vivaldi is pretty neat, but as far as I understand it’s a closed source Chromium browser. Its my back-up one for when Zen(/Firefox) is having issues with a page, which thankfully is infrequent.
The main reason I steer clear from Brave is because of its founder (former Mozilla employee) who has donated to an anti-gay bill among other things.
For me, in the EU, google maps shows “Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)” and “Lake Ontario (Lake America)”.
google maps will sometimes show different borders depending on where you access it from as well.
Personally I try to use OSM where I can, but streetview can be really useful sometimes.
