Games by their very nature are not real and even the ones which don’t directly adapt to your success or failure will certainly make concessions to reality and intentional design decisions which make the game more fun.
Personally I think game design is an intriguing subject and some of the ideas developers come up with are absolute genius, like the doom health bar you mentioned. It ramps up the tension, but yet it’s still finite, and if you play terribly you will die.
That to me is the difference. Tell white lies to the player to boost their fun, yes, but don’t remove all consequence with fake infinite health, a bike that steers itself, and QTEs that auto-succeed no matter what you do.
A game you can only win is a game with no agency, and that’s hardly a game at all.

People will play this like “Fucking hey! I aced that bike segment first time!” all proud of their gaming skills when the reality is you did absolutely nothing, my brother.
One way of thinking says maybe that’s okay. Maybe people just want to have a chill time and win and not struggle. Maybe that’s fine.
But on the other hand, it’s utterly deceptive.
To me, this is a reflection of the entirety of modern capitalism. Appeal to everyone. Don’t exclude anyone. Provide an illusion of choice while giving everyone the exact same homogenised experience. Provide the appearance of agency while removing all actual control.
I don’t like it.

Scraping has multiple meanings.
Web scraping is a specific type of scraping, but data via APIs or even torrents could be considered a scrape, even if that data is nicely structured.
The commonality between them is they all have the implication that:
- the data harvesting is automated
- the data you harvest is not owned by you, and you don’t have explicit permission to use it
- the scope of what you harvest is broad and not targeted at retrieving specific limited pieces of data
Any access patterns that broadly correspond to this could be considered scraping.

Meanwhile, there are “all-ages” anime visual-novel games on steam with official patches hosted by the developers off-site which turn them into full-on pornos - which is the version of the game they are actually trying to sell and what people are buying it for.
And not a peep from Valve on that because it’s off-site.
Must be very frustrating to developers of mainline games that by being honest and engaging with valve openly, they face far more hassle than groups who designed their game specifically to circumvent the rules.

No, IMO.
Assuming someone was happily cis, if they fall into a sex change trap it’s obvious what happened, what’s wrong, and what they need to fix to solve it and get “back to normal”
Fall into a gender change trap, you might not even notice what’s wrong, initially. You might spend weeks, months, years feeling bad in your own skin and not understanding why, or what’s wrong, or how to fix it.
Which is essentially the trans experience.
Gender change traps are a lot more insidious and evil than sex change ones, and I think we know this.
Well I hope boys can also wear skirts if they like.
