on Blizzard is reviving StarCraft as an open-world shooter, but it'll be a long wait in c/gaming@beehaw.org · 13 Sep 2026
I’m OK with it because some of them have been good, like the Metroid first-person shooter games. (I haven’t played them, but I know that people liked them.)
I think one of the reasons it doesn’t work well with movies is that changing the genre of a movie also changes its tone. But with games, the gameplay genre is different from the narrative genre. You can make a strategy game, platformer, or shooter with the same tone, and so it stays “true” to the original setting, and it makes sense as being in the same fictional universe.

I love these interviews. I don’t even have a device to run Leaf, but I enjoyed reading this anyway.

on Guess The Game (#015) [Solved - see comments] in c/games@lemmy.world · 27 Aug 2026
Wish I had scrolled through earlier, this would’ve been the first one I got right so far!
This game was fun in small doses. Very fast gameplay on tiny maps, so you died constantly, and there wasn’t a lot of variety in the maps or weapons. Basically, a more shallow version of Unreal Tournament or Quake 3, but it did run really smoothly.

on Saber CEO scorns writer who says she was fired in favor of AI with confusing, combative statement in c/games@lemmy.world · 13 Aug 2026
Yeah, this quote confirms that the CEO has become AI-obsessed and therefore probably did replace the writer with AI, just like the writer claimed.
Also, it is always so weird to me when people admit that they used AI to do something that they definitely should’ve been able to do without AI. “I had to ask Claude who this employee was” is not a dunk on the employee! You’re just admitting that you don’t even know how to search for a name in your own HR system! Like you’re an incapable moron or something!
While I’m glad that Hideo Kojima’s projects were picked up by Microsoft, and therefore the people at his studio will have paychecks because of that, it has to make these layoffs so much harder to take. MS just willingly picked up two projects from a guy who is chronically over budget, but they’re still doing layoffs for their existing employees.
