No one likes uncertainty
I’d say most people love uncertainty.
It’s why a whole lot of people do not go to the doctor when they have some ailment because uncertainty is preferred over negative outlooks.
It’s why many people avoid looking at the news despite knowing what’s being said will affect them sooner or later.
It’s why neither partner wants to confront the reality the relationship is failing, instead choosing to go on as usual until it crashes and burns.
And it’s why people don’t ask others out, as keeping the illusion you had a chance is preferred over knowing you never even had one. Ignorance is bliss after all.

Well, we are in c/Europe community so that’s not really a government I’m thinking of.
But besides: There’s hardly any difference between US government controlled and US billionaire controlled social media. And frankly, both are orders of magnitudes worse than EU government controlled social media.

Having a SIM card is one of these more pressing problems! Government age verification is very much not one of these when you can’t even access the government sites.
No ID = No SIM = No bank account = No insurance = No (legal) job = No housing
All of those require an ID already. Same with your examples - applying for social housing is dependant on you proving your identity via an ID.
This petition isn’t about eIDs though, it’s about the requirement to use eIDs to access the internet. The eIDs already exist in every single EU member state in case you don’t know.

You can’t even get a SIM card without ID here. It is mandatory to have one or you can and will be fined.
Seriously, those without ID have much more pressing problems than age verification. Proving citizenship for one.

It very much does. Else there would be no need for the EU to create legislation allowing/mandating it.
Right now member states are not allowed to unilaterally mandate chat control I believe.

It has a few quirks I utterly despise :(
Like it cannot print invisible characters. Had a script create some broken folders with a BOM character at the beginning. I couldn’t access the files in any way except that they appeared in dolphin and ls. Had to delete them via the fucking inode.
I was forced to use VSCode (an open source fork at least) to find out what the fuck was wrong with the input file the script used to generate the folder name.
You don’t understand, you’re the roommate that would be replaced by the robot.
