In that case they are simply wrong. That show is peak.
I blame Yoko and Episode 4 on my failures.
Ya gotta prepare them for it. Tell them the first three episodes are great, then they do weird stuff until episode 10, then it gets better. That way episode 8 blindsides them even harder!
