I also tend to choose female characters when playing anything where i can choose, which leaves me with 2 possibilities:
I am a very late bloomer and will realize my true nature somewhere in my sixties or
I simply like looking at and hearing women a lot more than looking at and hearing men. The voice acting is a lot better most of the time (Cyberpunk 2077 is the obvious example - i can’t stand playing with the male voice), and women are allowed to express emotions in games more often than men; worst offenders are games with a protagonist whose personality is so flat that even glue just slides off.
Yeah Cyberpunk is unfair example, the VA for fem V was absolutely perfect and dudes was very mediocre. Same with AC Odyssey, the VA for Kassandra gave such a great performance I don’t even remember the brother option despite him still being in the rest of the game lol. And of course anything with Jennifer Hale voicing a playable character practically removes the alternatives for me, still main a plant lady in GW2 and only play femshep in ME because I love her acting so much.
Dang you expressed it perfectly so I don’t have to. My second playthrough on Cyberpunk 2077 as the male VA was such a let down. Let men have emotions! It’s like that in a lot of games.
Also, men hairstyles in character creators are trash.
I like my voice very much - i have a very distinct prosody and good control over what i want to express with tone alone, i really can’t complain. I’ve worked with costumers on the phone for many, many years, and the amount of influence on the mood of costumers i was able to project in the latter years of this work through my voice alone (because often i had to bear bad news even to costumers who were already agitated at the job at that time - i was working at an automobile club similar to the AAA, and telling someone that we wont bring their car back home after an accident in a foreign country where people were hurt because the transport would be more expensive than the remaining value of the wreck really isn’t a fun thing) was somewhat disturbing for me at times. I had a woman once that called again after speaking to me, and she asked if my colleage would be willing to send me her ICQ number because of my voice (this was NOT what i was aiming for here, i wanted to fix her internet connection lol). He transmitted it to me, but a) i was in a relationship at the time and b) she was simply too normie for someone deep in the goth and metal scene at that time.
