One of the worst political nightmare fuels I’ve experienced came not long after the Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse blew open and was revealed not to be a few rogue interrogators after all, but in fact there’s a whole CIA program for extraordinary rendition and enhanced interrogation.
Have of all Americans, the Republican half, suddenly decided that torture was AOK and that waterboarding wasn’t torture.
Including my own dad.
It was like the community just stopped pretending we were trying to do a pluralist liberal democracy after all… which is what I thought we were trying to do.
