'It's very counterintuitive': The quantum batteries that upend the rules of charging
The world's first quantum battery prototype is here and it has some bizarre properties. Could these devices one day power quantum computing – or even your phone?
Is it counterintuitive?
A small battery can only charge at like 1 ampere max. A big battery can easily take multiple ampere.
Since quantum batteries are in their infancy, we should assume they are really small of charge.
Convential batteries also charge faster, if you charge it’s parts in parallel. But also needs more power. I guess that’s what happens internally in this “quantum” battery?
I believe the comparison here is that the charging time for single cell can be lowered by adding another. In conventional parallel battery setup, they would remain the same or gets worsen when adding more. I am assuming you are thinking of a scenario where the number of cells remain same but the connection is changed from serial to parallel.
Either way it’s pretty much pointless to compare quantum mechanics with chemical or macro things (not sure what to call these) as the basic rules and theories are completely different.
I mean, they still can’t make energy from nothing, to charge a larger capacity faster with no side-effects (like requiring more power to charge).
It’d be both charged and depleted until you plug it in, then you find out
