Particularly the bit about the inherent problem of save scumming in stealth games is something I’ve thought about writing about myself, but I guess someone else got there first, as this is pretty much an exact mirror of my thoughts.

I mean, I tried to watch some of L.A. By Night and didn’t really love them there, to be honest. Didn’t make me dislike them as a person or anything though, or as a voice actor. I think they’re talented. Just made me stop watching the show.

Inte över förrän det är över och allt vad det heter. Poströster kvar att räkna och man måste få ihop en regering av härvan också även om nuvarande mandatfördelning står sig.

Men visst, SD backar stort och kanske hamnar Tidö utanför makten. Förhoppningsvis vänder vindarna här.

Det är en väldigt tacksam ursäkt dock. Funkade för Trump, funkade för Jimmy. Folk är lättlurade, enkla lösningar på komplexa problem är attraktiva och det känns som att människor i allmänhet lätt faller in i främlingsfientliga tankar om man inte passar sig.

Det är alla jävla ungar som är problemet. M och SD största partier för 18-21. Så… landets framtid ser ljus ut som botten på en brunn, kan man säga.

Har sagt det förr, men det är för fan deprimerande att leva i det här landet nuförtiden.

Det kan väl teoretiskt fortfarande svinga över ett mandat åt andra hållet under veckan? Från poströster och utlandsröster. Men jag hoppas inte.

SD egen majoritet skulle vara sämre.

Skulle SD få egen majoritet emigrerar jag fanimej till Finland eller något. Färöarna. Stänger in mig i ett litet skjul ute på en kobbe.

Personligen är jag ordentligt less på Tidöpacket, men håller med om försvarsfrågan. Ukraina kommer bli otroligt viktigt. Och Pål har gjort ett bra jobb, hur mycket jag än önskade att globalpolitiken fortfarande var i ett läge där nedrustning var gångbart. Men vi är i den värld vi är i.

This one isn’t necessarily unexpected though - it was made by a bunch of ex-CDPR people. From the clips I’ve seen, it’s pretty much The Witcher 3: 2. Seeing as that game is many people’s all time favourite, the success of Dawnwalker doesn’t surprise me at all.

Jag är alltid för att spela spel som utspelar sig någonstans på det “inhemska” språket och med engelska undertexter, om möjligt. Så jag spelade Blasphemous med spanskt tal och Claire Obscur: Expedition 33 med franskt, till exempel. Men tyvärr verkar jag vara i en minoritet där. Håller helt med om att Eriksholm med svenska röster hade varit en kanongrej för inlevelse, men tyvärr från vad jag har sett så hatar majoriteten av världen att läsa undertexter, så de vill alltid ha röster på ett språk de förstår. Och i brist på internationellt intresse tror jag det är allt för dyrt att bekosta inspelning av svenskt tal enbart för den pyttelilla inhemska marknaden.

Sverige är en minimal marknad, och i princip varenda svensk talar engelska flytande ändå. Om du är en spelutvecklare, varför investera enorma mängder pengar på svensk lokalisering när det i praktiken är pengar i sjön.

Och jag vet inget. Jag var väldigt besviken på att Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream inte hade svenska röster. Det vore en perfekt tillämpning för inlevelse, men jag antar att alla engelsktalande länder är så usla på att läsa undertexter att det, igen, mest vore pengar i sjön.

He touches briefly in the video on the fact that horror games do get around some of the challenges of stealth games, seeing as there is still tension in hiding from a monster.

But honestly, it’s all just a question of immersion, even that. Horror games get much less scary without stakes, and few games implement them well. That’s another good subject for a video essay. The alien in Alien: Isolation becomes much less scary once you realise it’s just a walking reload button. So what if it catches you? You can just try again. Same issue as with most stealth games, only with an added jump scare.

That’s why I think games like Until Dawn have solved the issue of horror game stakes the best. In a regular horror game, the main character can never die before the game is over. That means failure just leads to reloading. In an ensemble game, your poor performance can get people killed and bad things happen, but the story trudges on. That keeps the tension high.

Another way is with some sort of permadeath. Darkwood on hard mode with limited lives is fucking scary. Some sort of stakes is needed for the fear to set in, unless your game produces horror from a different angle (existential, cosmic, psychological, visual body horror etc).

Anyway, I guess I got a bit sidetracked here 😅 I do agree that as far as AI behaviour goes, the alien in Alien: Isolation is an excellent guard!

They are one of the inspirations for this game. And probably singled out for the title along with Bloodborne to drive clicks. But disregard the clickbait - Withering Rooms was spectacular and from what I’ve heard from beta testers so is this sequel.

Withering Rooms is one of the best games I’ve played this year. Can’t recommend it enough. Really impressive effort for a solo dev.

I don’t think an SDR monitor is going to give you the same true blacks as an HDR monitor will. But even despite that most games - even today’s HDR-supporting titles - suck at producing good blacks. I quite often find myself installing some HDR fix shaders via ReShade simply to fix the black floor.

Agreed, and also about the DLC rankings. Blood and Wine is alright but it’s wildly overrated. It’s a nice post-game vacation and it has some fun stuff in it, but it’s ideal to play like a year after finishing base game + HoS, in my opinion.

Hearts of Stone is the best Witcher content CDPR has produced yet.

I personally always find it weird that killing hundreds of people is okay but nudity requires scrutiny.

I could literally not live without them anymore. It’s great even for browsing/desktop use with some extra common actions, and pretty much every single game plays smoother with a few thumb-bound hotkeys.

No, not in a long time. I just find it’s very nice to have, you can do actions without lifting your fingers off WASD. Or use the PC one handed in some cases and have a coffee.

I also switched to Logitech, to a G604 though. Six thumb buttons is perfect for me.

Same, although more than just the scroll wheel broke. And I think I was on three in a row breaking within a year before I gave up. It’s a shame because feature-wise I like some of their stuff, but it’s just impossible to buy products with this level of QC.
