clearly they’re putting something in the linux which turns the friggin kids trans. maybe you’d know something about that, mr. John Tech?
transparent nail polish is nice, also i can say that just plain black nail polish feels very fem compared to nothing at all, but gets read as pretty androgynous. i painted my nails black for like 4 months straight and nobody said a thing; within a day of adding other colors there were multiple people who brought it up (both supportive and not). in other words, black nails are ideal for feeling fem while boymoding :3
i finished my bachelor’s thesis earlier this week using nothing but caffeine and vyvanse, so at least one of us still exists :)
scoliosis :3
… Nicole? Nicole? Nicole?
my condolences
this raises a question: is your pfp an illustration of you, or is it of “jessica” (that mysterious person who you totally aren’t)
there is a flaw in this analysis, as the implication could go in either direction. it may be the case that Amy’s species is girl
revised punchline:
i think those are all girls(?) now.
the stereotype exists for a good reason! round glasses are cute :3
they’re popular because people like them, don’t be ashamed of matching the stereotype :)
you must be The Chosen One, please enlighten us with your great wisdom
and so, the top shortage continues…
for enbies: their name is just some random noun
the dark circles under my eyes might be caused by lack of sleep, or by landing on my face after my mid-morning tumble down the stairs. or both! i’ll never tell :3
scrolling through this batch of posts on mobile, i now understand how it must feel for tiktok/reels/shorts users when they open netflix and watch movies in portrait mode
tbh i’ve never used any form of OCR (outside of the one time i tried out live translation in google translate) and the idea of using it didn’t even cross my mind
bear in mind that no matter how progressive the filmmakers are, the Spider-Verse movies are still mass-market movies, and the corporate studio overlords would never greenlight anything which they deem “controversial” and could hurt the film’s reception. in the West, gayness is sufficiently widely accepted that the entire MCU was able to get away with a single canonically gay character who says one throwaway line (which is totally inconsequential and can be easily dubbed over for less progressive markets). on the other hand, even in the “progressive” West, the mere existence of a trans person is enough for some people outside of the alt-right to raise a huge fuss - there’s no way any major studio would allow an open discussion of a character’s transness in one of the most hyped franchises of the past few years, let alone one of the main characters¹. veiled hints and nods are the best you’re going to get.
that said, while i sorta understand your skepticism, i think there’s enough times throughout the movies where it’s just aggressively in-your-face without explicitly saying it that i have no doubt that the writers intended her to be trans. off the top of my head:
again, considering these movies have so much thought put into the most minute graphical elements, i simply cannot imagine a way that they could’ve managed to accidentally surround a character whose entire story is a clear trans allegory with so much blatantly obvious trans imagery. of course there’s no way it could ever be said out loud, but what they’ve done with Spider-Gwen goes very far beyond the usual “transcoding” or “queercoding” of characters in media.
¹ unless the character being trans is portrayed as a joke in and of itself, in which case it’s apparently totally fine!
i figured it was such a small amount of text that it’d take less time to do manually than it would to track down the original source of the meme (if any exists - it could’ve just been someone messing around with browser devtools or the wikipedia editor preview), but i severely underestimated how hard it is to quickly transcribe text when every second word has been horribly mangled
ooh, looks like federation is broken again!
as part of troubleshooting (before opening a bug report) i will add a comment to see if that causes it to federate instantly
EDIT: it did indeed
considering she literally has a trans pride flag hanging above the door in her bedroom, i’m gonna say it’s a little bit more than just allegory
i considered posting this in !egg_irl@lemmy.blahaj.zone, but decided against it on the basis that not all trans people have been eaten by snakes prior to their transition so it might not be relatable
i’ve never heard of that theory but it makes perfect sense, that’d be so cool :3
that said, knowing disney i wouldn’t hold my breath on it
bepis
I Saw the TV and Bing Bong Fall Into the Memory Dump
omg cakejumper mentioned!!1!1!!!1!
this seems to be more of a “kick” than a “poke” to me :P

okay, i really don’t understand the trans subtext here. or is this one literally about cracking eggs?
yes
wait why is “cïs” spelled like that and how are you supposed to pronounce it :thonk:
this is the logical next step in the evolution of horse girls
oh right! i was considering the ribs one for a while as well. my lower few ribs all sort of stick outwards in a way which makes it look like i have a beer belly (despite being really skinny), and frankly they protrude further out than i’m expecting my boobs to grow from HRT. never really noticed or cared before starting to transition, then realized that it makes it rather impossible to wear any non-baggy top without showing off the lower half of my rib cage, and definitely considered getting the rib-breaking surgery for a while. since then i realized that this is almost certainly a symptom of my scoliosis, so i would’ve had this issue no matter which way my body developed, and now i’ve more or less come to terms with it (although finding shirts with a fem cut that don’t look silly is still a bit harder than it would be if my back weren’t all crooked! :P).
(also, having to wear a corset 24/7 for months would probably make my back muscles even weaker than they already are, and there’s a good chance it’d make the scoliosis worse…)
no, i mean combustible lemons!
i just looked it up, wikipedia confirms that y’all still exist in the wild. stay safe out there <3

it’s always DNS
task failed successfully
transgender is a plot by Big Fish to stop humans from eating caviar
come play GregTech: New Horizons, you’ll never be done >:D
unlike stackoverflow, they haven’t figured out a way to feed trans girls directly into their AI training datasets (yet)

In that case you can use –log-driver=syslog. There are quite a few other options to choose from :)
Out of interest, why is overlayfs out of the question? If it’s because you’re running rootless and you’re running an older kernel which doesn’t allow non-root users to create overlayfs mounts, there’s always the fuse-overlayfs driver, which is functionally the same but emulates it in userspace using a FUSE driver. Finally, the vfs driver should ALWAYS work, although it comes at the cost of not being able to share storage between image layers. Also if you’re on ZFS there’s a zfs driver for that which uses ZFS volumes (same idea as the subvolume approach on btrfs). There’s more information on the docs if you’re interested, and I’m pretty sure podman has a similar suite of options.
I think a lot of depictions of trans people is that they have some innate sense of who they are, how they want their body to look and how they want to be perceived. While this is certainly true for some trans people, it’s definitely not all of them, and I’d go so far as to say it’s probably the minority.
I certainly didn’t have a clear image of what I wanted out of transition before starting, only a very specific list of traits I most certainly didn’t like (being sweaty, smelly, emotionless, covered in thick body hair, having my whole body be either pointy bone or hard muscle, eventually going bald, …), and started HRT cause it would kill pretty much all those birds with one stone (or at least had the potential to, and certainly wouldn’t make anything worse). Literally every other aspect of my transition, be it clothing or name/pronouns, has been me basically going “hey if I’m already doing the HRT thing I might as well give every other way I could transition a try and see if I like anything”, so I’ve just been throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. I’ve been through like 5 different names and have more or less concluded that I’m happy with my original name. I’ve tried quite a few different pronouns and so far I still don’t know if I prefer any of them over being called “he”. Feminine clothing turned out to be pretty fun and I like wearing it, but I’m also not throwing out my old wardrobe because sometimes the dorky graphic tee with a bad science pun is exactly how I’m feeling. Nail polish is a yes, facial makeup a hard no.
Not sure where I’m going with this, I guess I just wanted to make it clear that transition isn’t necessarily a linear journey where you already know exactly where you’re going before you set out, it’s more of a wandering exploration as you come out of your shell and gradually figure out what makes you happy, and there might be many changes of direction throughout.
Ironically, I hardly have any pre-transition photos where I’m not smiling. When taking photos people always tell you to smile, so I always did, whether I was feeling it or not. I have more non-smiling photos from the past 8 months than the entire rest of my photo library combined because now I’ve started to just take random selfies sometimes and don’t always feel the need to force a fake smile on.
Also YES nobody talks about the looking younger part, I don’t think my face looks all that much different but it 100% looks dramatically younger and it’s absolutely crazy. I’ve de-aged by multiple years, on multiple occasions in the past months I’ve been introduced to strangers alongside my brother (4 years younger than me) and they’ve assumed I’m the younger brother. Feels really weird, but I don’t dislike it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
uh… yes, you can? docker doesn’t even log to journald by default, and you can also just do docker run --log-driver=none … if you want to completely disable saving any logs.
edit: there are also a bunch of alternate storage systems, i have docker set up to use btrfs subvolumes
oh no, maria got her hands on so many noodles that she’s gone mad with power!
enjoy your big box of noodles, may it give you many yummies :)
I think you’re interleaving two separate changes. One is the mid-20th century feminist fight for women to be allowed to work (in the West, anyway), and the other is the fact that wages haven’t kept up with cost of living increases since about the Reagan era. Capitalists forcing everyone to work full-time jobs just to scrape by was certainly enabled by the success of feminist labor movements, but you’re drawing a false equivalence between the feminist goal of “if they’d like to, women should be allowed to perform any job” and the capitalist goal of “we can make it impossible for families to get by without all adults being worked to the bone, that will increase our labor pool”. The early feminists wanted to be able to choose to provide for themselves, maybe even provide for a stay-at-home husband. What you’re saying sounds a lot like “the only good feminists are housewives”.
yeah they’re just a little note you can add to a user to help remember who’s who, once you’ve got a few of them it can be quite fun to see familiar faces showing up in the most random places all over lemmy :3
they’re purely a client-side feature and the official lemmy ui doesn’t support them - personally i use Summit for Lemmy when browsing on mobile but i’m pretty sure most of the other popular mobile apps support tags as well
by 1.5ml subcutaneous injections, i assume you’re referring to either estradiol valerate or enanthate at a concentration of either 40 or 50mg/mL? if so, you’re doing monotherapy - that is a high enough dose that it’ll almost certainly be enough to suppress your body’s testosterone production, and even if the exact dosage may need to be tuned a bit (depending on what your blood work results say) that high of a dose is clearly intended to work without requiring an antiandrogen.
dutasteride may not be a proper antiandrogen, but blocking DHT (dihydrotestosterone) can be useful for combatting the effects of male pattern baldness. now, since estrogen monotherapy will lower your ordinary testosterone levels by approximately an order of magnitude, your DHT levels should drop by about the same amount (since DHT is primarily produced via conversion from ordinary testosterone). this should be more than enough to avoid going bald since ideally your DHT levels will end up at about the same level as a cis woman (and may even be enough to revert some hair loss - i have two little patches of baby hairs on either side of my widow’s peak which started showing up around february!), but if you’ve already lost a decent amount of hair then taking a DHT blocker could be helpful on top of that to increase the likelihood of some hair growing back.
spiraling is fine, we all do it <3
and i totally get you on the fashion stuff! figuring out what looks good takes a lot of time and effort and practice, especially when you haven’t ever really thought about it before. to be honest with you i’ve really fallen back to my old “wardrobe” (cargo shorts + whatever graphic tee is on top of the pile) the last few weeks. i don’t necessarily mind, but i want to keep trying more stuff. should really swing by the thrift store and see if i can find something to get inspired again…

i keep selecting “male” on the form every time i get my blood work done, because the results include a column which shows the “reference value”, and it will never stop being funny to me that both my values are approximately an order of magnitude outside of their expected range
