There are simply too many people on earth for us all to continue eating the amount of meat we do, this will become more and more apparent as our reliance on crude oil wanes. I also don’t think there is neccesarilly a connection between abundance of food and population size when it comes to societies like they had. I have heard that in some parts their diet was over 90% meat, which was possible because of the way they managed prairie and woodland ecosystems. Its obvious to me that we are going to have to give up factory farming in the next 100 years, and whatever the human population is by then will have to be sustained by practices not rooted in refining crude oil. That means we wont be able to grow corn or soybean monocultures for livestock feed. There is also the physics angle behind all of this which is what makes me believe we could really be eating a decent amount of dear. The ratio of sunlight that gets converted into meat is a lot higher when you have a proper native ecosystem harvesting it and channeling it up the food chain than you achieve when you just grow corn to feed to cows.
Things would have to change yes, and we will all be eating less meat in the future anyways. The Native Americans had basically sculpted sections of North America into a huge deer factory using controlled burns, this process could be accelerated again and is much much better for the environment and much much more efficient at getting sunlight to be meat than modern agricultural practices. (Besides being an ethical way of farming meat.)
I would also like to point out how the modern meat industry is basically an extension of big oil, the abundance of beef we have enjoyed relies entirely on fertilizers made from refining oil. We all know that this is unsustainable and it is why beef prices go up so high when gas goes up.
We could literally all be eating deer instead of beef in the US if we took full advantage of the deer situation. It would be cheaper and better for the environment.
It’s mostly the ads they run for it every hour and that they are obviously scared to irk this administration. He did get good answers out of this guy.
NPR has increasingly more chickenshit journalists at their employ. A shame because even now radio is powerful media that can change and influence minds, they just use more of their airtime to shill for AI instead of doing real journalism
Is schizophrenic a gender?
Hey, I remember this joke.
Gender is what operating system you use.
I guess I have never eaten at regular points in the day long enough for my body to be conditioned for that. I have always eaten when I get hungry rather than by meal (barring school lunch).
The English language has a lot of different kinds of hunger hiding behind a single word too, there are these little hunger pangs you might start feeling a few hours after eating, but those aren’t capital H hunger. If Its been more than 12 hours you will get hungry weakness where it might feel like you are starving, but you really aren’t and you kinda resume normal functioning if you push past it. After 24 hours capital H Hunger has arrived, you are starving and burning pure body fat and running low like a candle. There is also hunger more like malnutrition where you are chronically underfed and certain bodily functions have been subprime for months or years. Shit even low blood sugar is gets called hunger. It can be kinda hard to know what kind of hunger a person is experiencing unless you know the full context or ask more questions.
When I was doing chemo I welcomed the hunger specifically because it allayed any nausea I was getting. Honestly I think the other comment in this thread might be right about the dizziness because that has never nauseated me either. I personally would be inclined to think people are misinterpreting their low blood sugar, but we all have unique bodies that respond differently to their environments.
Yeah i get spells of dizzy weakness out of hunger but never nausea.
Never had that happen.
Eyyy, I used to like that program quite a bit. Is there some controversy about it?
That silent generation (and anyone born before the 1940s who was alive then) really repressed all the shit that happened to them so thoroughly that there are like 40 years of people that just don’t understand suffering. I was watching some of the ww2 propaganda that the Looney Tunes people made and nothing was clearer than the fact that those people were tired of shit happening and knew their luck was about to turn. They didn’t proceed to take the necessary steps of explaining to their kids what actually happened to them and how it came to occur.
Someone born in 1900 would have also experienced oligarchy, economic downturns, environmental disasters at scale, and a pandemic (plus 2 fucking world wars) by their 40s
Gender and age of the city
Our food future is local, what meat there will be to eat will have to come from nearby and every neighborhood is gonna have to start growing its own vegetables. I almost definitely underestimate the average appetite for meat. In any case, right now is a great time to shoot a deer or two if you want cheaper meat over the next year.
