We’re looking to get off Rackspace’s email as the Spam filtering is pure garbage. We’re going to avoid the Googles and MS’s of the world, and I’m wondering if this community has suggestions for mail providers that run FOSS services (and are public about that via support), and/or are privacy focused. Note: Proton is a no-go due to having to run an IMAP middle-man service.

Yea, I’ve recently learned LineageOS has an AndroidTV version that runs on a lot of devices, including the Pi. Been considering investigating that.

This is less about an AI mistake and more about a culture shift (which leads to an over-reliance, but is heavily a “we don’t care”).
Very true. I do have a let’s encrypt wildcard cert that I also use with internal IPs for instances like this. But most of my items don’t require that.
It is surprisingly easy to add a custom CA to phones and laptops. When I migrated to services using one with names like thisservice.lan I thought it would be a lot harder. I just have a generation script that makes a new cert and I throw it in NGINX.

Hah, for some reason when those were available I was registering crazy long ones. It was more about getting the words back then for me.
Honestly I’m surprised mine was still available since the 5 letter one (which is now my main personal domain/site) is actually my newest. It was around the time Popular Science rebranded PopSci, and I was able to grab NowSci.

Woa, fun to see this on Lemmy. I’ve got an IETF draft out and am working with some people on an option to solve this (including a major cookie banner provider).
It’s a Rackmate T2. I printed the parts in ASA, which is very heat resistant, and it’s held up for a long time against all the hot equipment. It’s also pretty thin on the HD sled holders, still doesn’t sag or budge.
I should probably make these models public at some point.

This looks great! Any thought on relay control? I built an 8 outlet box with relays inside so I can direct control power to each server with a Raspberry Pi. It runs PiKVM and is also attached to an 8 port KVM for control.

About 80% of cars on the road still use halogen bulbs, the same ones from the 80s. Lumens isn’t the problem, it’s lux, I.E. how much light hits the road (and other drivers eyes), which is influenced as much by the housing as the light source.
The actual problem is the terribly lax enforcement of glare and cutoff standards, along woth pretty much no standards on anything else related to the housing.
As often as not, you’re getting blinded by a halogen with a housing that shouldn’t be legal.

But you also get that with shared memory in zswap, with all the other advantages. I’d really recommend reading the “Architectural differences” in the linked article from Chris Down, as he’s way deeper into the kernel code than me, but the biggest problem in a setup like a small memory server is:
If you have a ZRAM device, and it fills up, more recently needed pages end up on the backup disk swap, because ZRAM has no way to move between swaps
Where zswap is built into the kernel memory management layer, so it can automatically decide which pages are cold and put them on disk, while keeping fresh ones in compressed RAM.
I.E. in your use case, zswap is better, not even taking into account all the other details from Chris’ article.
But… Why? If ZRam uses RAM as compressed swap, what advantage does it have over just leaving that RAM available as shared memory? Do you have a specific process that is eating up non-shared? This might be of interest: chrisdown.name/…/zswap-vs-zram-when-to-use-what.h…
Yea, I’m wondering if people don’t realize the kernel has a swappiness setting. You can turn it down to lower the priority given to swap.
Why not just set kernel swappiness to 1 and not do any of that?

Not true. Veracrypt’s hidden file system is random data on a preexisting partition that uses no software. You can only detect it if you install Veracrypt and guess the password.
How is this better than a Veracrypt hidden partition on a standard thumb drive?

This is one of the few actually cool and useful implementariins to me. It reminds me of my work writing systems to detect antimicrobial issues in hospitals.

This is basically a beefed up IVR with better customer satisfaction reports, so… yes.
But as I said in the other comment, giving updates to callers is something a standard answering system can’t do.
My understanding from other articles is caller satisfaction is greater with the TTS system, and it uses voice IVR to triage of they have additional information. AI is not bullshit in and of itself. This product seems barely diffeent from what they provided with APEX.
Recordings also can’t auto respond with updates to the caller like this can, which is a pretty nice feature, even if it’s just TTS.
Everyone should read before reacting:
This is intended to handle the increase of calls that are related to one incident, so callers get automatically routed to an AI agent who asks if they are calling regarding the incident. If the answer is yes, then callers can receive information or updates, and if it’s no, then the callers are transferred to a human.
This makes sense. A big thing happens that you are aware of. Geolocated calls from that area flood in. An operator, who could be getting useful info, has to handle a flood of “Guess what I just saw!”
Note that I think they should spend the money on more operators instead, but at least this seems like it has good guardrails.
Interestingly they are taking a different route with this data than they usually do (in the article).
