Yeah, it’s infuriating how much potential they are leaving on the table here. My camera has a clock to put the correct time into the exif data, but it’s not possible to set up the camera so that it does take a picture every few seconds or every few minutes. That should be possible right out of the box.

If you’ve been at Reddit for a while, you recognize all those blantant bot-driven reposts. It’s really something. The same old screenshot of some tweet being reposted hundreds of times. The same questions in /r/askreddit with the same old answers. Memes that are repeating on a fixed schedule. The same ragebait content enraging the second generation of a family.

There’s also the root problem of employees having no agency to kick out misbehaving people. There’s this whole “the customer is king” ethos in American commerce and this is enabling the worst people to harass people without any consequences. If you are getting kicked out and banned from most stores in your town because you are an abusive asshole, you might think again about your behavior and maybe even change. If everything that is coming from your bad behavior is that some random employee is getting fired, yes, this will enable even worse behaviour.

- If Discord can read the device ID, every other website or program can?
- If Discord can’t and courts are forcing Microsoft to give out that data for Take2 to correlate IP adresses or other data, that is also really bad

When companies are not able to produce enough to satisfy demand and are actively stopping selling to certain sectors and harming them, they should lose their patents. RAM companies are actively harming all of us by selling their products to the AI companies and leaving us all without RAM, so we should encourage alternatives.

I really do not want to stick a camera to my helmet. I’m wearing that helmet as safety gear and I do not believe that it is safe to mount robust things with batteries to something which needs to absorb the impact of a fall.

I kind of like the idea. Take some pictures while doing other things like riding your bike or going on a hike without having to take out your phone. Take a quick picture while shopping to them to my wife. Get navigation cues without the phone. But they are so creepy

Yeah. The kids are just the last part of the chain of failure here. Why is Meta producing such a thing? Why the fuck are parents buying several hundred dollars worth of spy glasses for their children and sending them to school with them without any supervision? And what the fuck is the school doing here? The first report of someone harassing other pupils with such a device should be reason to ban them and take hard discipline measures against the harrasser

It’s not just about backups. If you discontinue the collection of certain data or mess with the data itself before publication, the whole study might get useless. Take those long-term studies researching health outcomes over decades. If you mess with the data collection there, you can’t get clean data back after Trump is dead.

Or … maybe France tried upgrading its aging nuclear reactors with the new reactor in Flamanville, which went spectacular over budget? And debt ridden EdF simply has not the funds to build over 50 new reactors at 13 billion each?

A few hints:
- Start with smaller projects with simpler codebases. Do not try to understand what LibreOffice or Jellyfin are doing.
- Maybe try to understand how one specific part of that software works. Chatbots are really, really good at explaining existing code, so ask your bot where the feature is located and let it explain it to you

It’s really something they bought together one of the strongest portfolios of gaming companies and franchises you can think of. And then they are just sitting on it, doing nothing with it, dissolving studios and firing people. They have Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Starcraft and Warcraft. Age of Empires. All dead.
Get a raspi or some thinclient. Every of those sticks I’ve touched was totally crap. Slow, awful software, some come with malware preloaded and the whole experience is crap. There is enough space behind your TV for a raspi.
