Howabout this:
All social media algorithms that direct content flow to users are required to be open source, in perpetuity, at least for viewing, so that actual unbiased folks can audit them. Maybe make a new liscense class for this, if need be, so companies can still own the code, but it just has to be publically reviewable.

This kind of thing happens because the indie or AA devs traverse the dunning kruger curve, as they develop the game.
They often initially think things will be easier than they actually are. Then, the reality of the complexities of game dev hits them in the mouth. After that… they become more measured in their public promises.
Better to underpromise and overdeliver, than to overpromise and underdeliver.
Whereas AAA/corpo games… the entire plan the whole time is to bait and switch you, if they don’t become astoundingly successful basically instantly.
See, they have a marketing budget and the salaries of a bloated management hierarchy they need to cost justify, quickly, because line must go up.

I can’t speak to Terraria specifically, but just with most games in general?
An actual bugfix often means you changed the underlying guts of some system, some system that had appeared to work, but actually, had a fundamental flaw, even if minor.
With that kind of a fix… well, often mods essentially work by creating their own uses of, or work-arounds for the old buggy system.
So, when that system is reworked, to remove the bug… well now some of the guts of the mod may need to be reworked as well.
An extreme example of this would be the FO4 ‘update’.
Not really much in the way of new content… but they reworked a bunch of the guts. Which broke just most mods that did anything beyond something entirely simplistic and superficial.

What this has been the whole time is naked power grab to establish a technate, a techno-oligarchy.
When, not if, this fully fucking detonates the West’s finances and economies, most of these people will still be very wealthy, most of our 401k/pensions/net worth will mostly no longer exist, and we will end up with a society of all but formal aristocracy, vs us ‘low income worker’ peasants.
That is their plan. They have been open about that for 20-30 years; they despise democracy, they think the world should be hard deliniated into haves and have-nots.

Tbf, there are mods that have just kept on getting more and more features and content added to them, and/or took a stupid amount of time to get to basically v1.0.
Black Mesa Source, the HL1 remake in HL2 engine… pretty sure that took a decade, was originally a mod.
Yes, by far most mods for most games are more… hah, ‘modular’, and tend to be basically just a single or few releases, but there are much more expansive mods of much larger scope, for many different games.
Basically, most ‘total conversion’ mods tend to be more like that… years of development toward a kind of end goal state, because they are basically making an entirely or massively different game, based on whatever particular original game.
That being said, I mean this just broadly for pc game mods. I don’t play Terraria much, never even heard of this mod till this post/article.
