Not nearly as much as in gaming. It does I music a lot but mostly small productions like a single person making a blue grass cover of a metal song, not here’s 100 million budget and a full nationwide ad campaign.

I hate when they remake classic games as a totally different genre. Imagine if they did that in other media… “We are making a new breakfast club movie… It will be a space opera!”… “everyone loved hit me baby one more time by Britney Spears, we are remaking it as a mumble rap”… “the taming of the shrew by William Shakespeare was successful, what if we made as an animated TV show like Rick and morty?”
I’m all for remaking starcraft but keep it as an rts with updated graphics and modern features.

It was mostly just the naming that caused my frustration. I tried to declare all variables at start, had that section printed out and hung on my cubicle wall.

It was a lot of magic numbers, why was that set that thing set to 3 minimum? It worked good enough at 3 to be acceptable

It’s fanuc cnc… Incredibly useful and precise but OLD! They literally still support programs from bubble tape if you need. It was basically hardware constrained initially but fixing it would break backwards compatibility which is a super selling point for them to government and long term industries.
Their controllers are mad expensive (budget version is like 30k last I checked), their support is top notch(tech typically on site within 24 hours with every possible board which may be bad so they can get you running and charge you later), they are incredibly precise and can do things other systems legally can not(a trainer I knew said “if you can move in 5 dimensions at once you can do some interesting things with nuclear energy so those require special clearance to sell”). Basically if you need them you NEED them, if you don’t then you don’t.

It was g-code which as another commentator correctly pointed out was used to control a fanuc cnc system.

Basically we made devices which were surgically implanted into your body to send specific electrical signals to your spine and brain for certain medical issues. The electronics were in a metal case so your icky blood and bodily fluids didn’t cause shorts. This system was to weld the metal case closed.

Lol, yup. Actually it was 4 axis. And connected to a laser instead of a milling bit. The system was also in a controlled gas environment which added extra complications.

Reminds me of a codebase I used to work on which we had 899 variable limit and we couldn’t name them, only number them. These were limitations of the language.
Each variable had to be assigned a 3 digit number but 1-100 were taken by internal stuff so only 101- 999 was allowed. So let’s say you wanted to check if power was between 50 and 60 you would end up with like
#301 = 50;
#302 = 60;
#303 = powerSignal;
If #303 < #301 || #303 > #302: Display error

My favorite is I ordered dog food. It was scheduled for 2 weeks (with prime). It arrived next day. Amazon still said it wasn’t shipped yet. To this day “expected delivery date is currently unknown” in the Amazon app. I ordered it in May. It does give me the option to request refund but I haven’t done it as the food was actually delivered and this seems like some employee forgot to scan the sticker at some point.

I still remember one day, in like 2005. I was in a program where long story short I went to school for 1/2 a day, went to work as a network administrator for a credit union for the other half. I had a cell phone and the credit union had my phone number. This day I forgot to silence my phone. Now the credit union was pretty good and specialized in school workers. I was in my last class of the day and my phone rang. I looked at it, saw it who it was, silenced the ringer and let it go to voicemail. My teacher flipped his shit. Started accusing me of everything from cheating(it was a lecture, not a test) to drug dealing. I interrupted him and asked “do you bank with abc credit union?” he was thrown off his rant and said “yes but what does that have to do with anything?” so I simply responded “that was the vice president and cfo of your bank”. “you lie, it’s one of your scumbag friends” I took out the phone, called voicemail and first message started with “hey vrek, this is cfo name vice president and cfo of abc credit union…” this was his normal start of a phone call cause he mostly dealt with other corporations. My teachers face went white and had no idea what to say or do. He literally just ignored it, turned around and went back to lecture lol.
But totally different from the original movie
