The Firefox update is finally on the way! This release adds support for Firefox’s new requirements. I expect version 4.0.5 to pass Mozilla’s review within a week, bringing the long-awaited Firefox update. Firefox 140 or newer is required.

What’s changed

YouTube Shorts: Fixed missing dislike counts and stale controls when scrolling between Shorts, with better support for newer YouTube layouts and navigation between regular videos and Shorts.
New: Hide clutter buttons. Enable it in the extension settings to keep Like and Dislike visible. Share, Save, Thanks, and other optional actions remain available in YouTube’s three-dot More menu. Off by default.
Fixed action buttons clipping, wrapping, or flickering on narrow video pages.
Improved dislike-count and ratio-bar updates when navigating between videos without reloading.
New: GitHub contributor sign-in. Contributors can now sign in with GitHub to access premium features.

Even a proprietary streaming stick like FireTV would be an improvement because it only collects telemetry from the stick itself and not devices connected to other HDMI ports.

Projectors have become amazing.

Yeah and consumer oriented ones have their own apps and Google TV integration and the like, so no idea how a different image displaying tech would be a solution to privacy invasive TVs.

They can connect to open (and hidden) networks without your consent.

That’s a wild claim and either I accidentally skipped a paragraph in the article or you should cite a source. Quick googling doesn’t show up anything of that sort for me.

It’s honestly better to just have a bare wall and a projector.

Consumer projectors come with the same “smart” shit as TVs these days. Just don’t connect either to WiFi. Problem solved.

This would’ve worked just a few years back but due to shitty “age verification” laws, even TV manufacturers willl force users to create an account the very least for the TV to even start up.

Surely only for “smart” features but without enabling any of that shit, you shouldn’t get any age verification prompt.

He didn’t. That’s the point. The slop code is a self contained dependency only used for the Linux build and not part of the actual paint.net codebase. His core user group (on Windows) will never get in touch with it.

I think everybody, including him, would prefer if there was a working implementation of Direct2D for Wine.

the BSD’s are still a few years behind

As long as many BSD developers (especial at FreeBSD, I think it’s a lesser degree with Net and Open) are Mac users who actively reject using any FOSS BSD on desktops/notebooks and only care about contributing regarding server stuff, this won’t change.

I think one way is to make people realize that there is a concept in copyright called Threshold of Originality, meaning that because machine generated output in itself is not creative work, it’s not copyrightable. You can do literally anything with it, the licenses attached don’t matter. The GPL is not enforceable and no proprietary EULA is enforceable.

When I packaged software, I did RPM for Fedora and openSUSE (because that’s what I used at that time) but out of curiosity I looked at .deb as well and boy are there weird things there.

There are many similarities between RPM and pkgbuild for Arch, so I could easily copy almost entire pkgbuilds from AUR and merely adapt a few variables but whatever the inventors of .deb concocted is crazy. Archives within archives and other stuff I actively repressed memories of.

I don’t see the problem. For years I’ve used the public Open Build Service instance at openSUSE to package and publish software for openSUSE and Fedora (never cared for Debian/Ubuntu because I packaged the software only for my own use but it’s possible).
