How do Europeans feel about having a federated army stationed in Canada and Greenland?
We could start with danish, french and british troops establishing bases in Canada with nordic troops in Greenland. These garrisons could be primarily used for training Ukrainians and Taiwanese defenders.
We could build more ice breakers to protect our North West Passage and infrastructure to support the locals in the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Greenland with increased access to foods, medicine and opportunities.
As we need to secure democracy, local sovereignty and minerals from the fascist Washington DC’s encroachment on our countries. They have Alaska already, there’s no need for more entitlement.
We must stand together in the face of imperial Russia and USA.
It’s already a regular and totally acceptable thing and has been for a long time, it’s so acceptable that nobody really even bothers to talk about it, but it is certainly reasonable to expect it to happen a lot more – more often, more widely, and more quantity, and I look forward to it. Canada’s got some new icebreakers rolling off the line right now, in partnership with Finland. We’re already a team, we’re just going to be working together even more now.
Though we need more diversity in countries training on Canadian soil not just British while we push out the fascist American operations from the great white north.
No more 5-EYES, USMCA, DEA, NORAD, ICE, NSA, FBI and CIA in Canada.
We need to make NATO and the ICC Trump-proof and boot out the MAGA moles. We should eject the USA from NATO.
I think this would be a lot harder than I’d be to create a second Nato, that is just everyone minus the US - we could sell it as a project to so we can fend for ourselves if the US starts a war with China.
I wouldn’t want Erdogan’s Turkey in there either. Free Kurdistan.
And give up a commanding position on the Black Sea?
Ideally we’d still keep NATO going in some sort of capacity and continue to pretend to be friends with the US and Turkey, but with friends like that who needs enemies.
We feel very diverse and far away from each other, but…
…but in general we are much less trigger happy than people on the american continents, and most times we don’t feel our armies at all.
I live in a garrison town so I suppose I feel our army (and the French army, bonjour) more than your average European.
All for it, but I think also a big part would be combatting hybrid warfare. A counterresponse to that is sorely needed.
Large-scale closure of bot and troll farms, or attacking them, legislation to make algorithms no longer favour fascist polarisation, addressing housing shortages etc…

Danish troops (which are Nordic troops) would probably prioritize having its bases on its territory of Greenland.
I think Europeans tend to be more similar than we realize, but our views on military is a big exception. We have very different histories and geographical distance to Russia. Those of us bordering Russia tend to value a strong defence, Spaniards tend to think it’s completely unnecessary and many of them don’t seem to care too much about what is going on in eastern Europe. Those with a recent history of invasion probably see military differently from those with a recent history of civil war and totalitarianism.
As a Scandinavian I pretty much see Canada as an extension of the Nordics. Cooperating with them makes all the sense in the world. We already have a Nordic Defence Cooperation and I’d be happy to see Canada join.
As a Norwegian I feel uncomfortable about Greenland. My ancestors left there hundreds of years ago, and Denmark has no remotely legitimate claim of the land whatsoever. It certainly needs security guarantees today, and we should offer them, but we shouldn’t get any ideas of ownership. Many Danes seem to think they have rightful ownership of the land because their tax money pays for welfare there. That’s obviously an absurd claim. We should back them up any way we can while also leaving their destiny to the Greenlanders.
I’m not really cheering for all the war and military build-up at its current extent. I think it’s a big waste of resources. And taxpayer money, which we should probably spend on useful stuff. Idk, kids, education system, energy transition…
Probably a necessary evil, though. The good (sane) side absolutely needs to prevail and stand united against evil, the dictators, oligarchs and warmongering a-holes. Feels good to see how there’s still a broad alliance of countries who still value friends and collaboration and freedom.
You won’t have any of that if fascist countries invade you.
Though, IMO it’s really a shame. Every single modern bomb used it poof, and there go several million dollars. And now that money can’t be used to fix 2 school buildings, either way. Reportedly, every third € in our proposed near-term state budget goes towards buying tanks and drones. All the while, we’re still being threatened by the dictator in the east. And the wannaba dictator in the west is making fuel crazy expensive for everyone of us. Isn’t there any more clever way than to play their stupid game?
But our chancellor is telling the same narrative. There’s just no money left for families and society. We need to prioritize defense.
