  the fact thay apple itself is tracking users while forcing developers to do opt-in is bad, of course.

  but this sounds like the potential outcome from the lawsuit would be more lenient rules for third parties, rather than more strict ones for apple. or am i reading it wrong?

    I concur.

    The way I read that article is that the opt-in message is a good thing for privacy, but all apps need to do it inc. Apple (and the same for Google and Android…)

  When [“ask app not to track”] launched, opt-in rates plummeted well below 30%, crippling the targeted advertising models that thousands of app developers relied on for revenue. Without cross-app identifiers, developers struggled to target ads effectively or measure user conversions, significantly driving up customer acquisition costs.
