  The collapse comes after the successful deal between the British Museum and France to see the Bayeux Tapestry, depicting the Norman Conquest of Britain, return to the UK after nearly 1,000 years while its permanent home was undergoing renovations.

  Not a particularly apt comparison given that the Bayeux Tapestry was made for the Normans. Greek marble statues weren’t made in England or for any patron from there.

    Yeah, a subtle hint could be that the Bayeux tapestry depicts the Normans, and (usually) resides in Bayeux in Normandy.

    Whereas the Elgin Marbles were named that because Elgin stole the artworks depicting Greeks from Greece.
