President Karol Nawrocki said he hopes the US will finalize plans to establish a permanent military base in Poland, to be called ‘Fort Trump.’
Nawrocki is confident that a decision is “just a question of time” and he’d like construction to be completed before President Donald Trump’s term ends.
The idea of a permanent US base was first floated by Nawrocki’s predecessor Andrzej Duda in 2018, and officials in Warsaw have redoubled their efforts to lock in a presence for US troops since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022

New guidelines will require all schools in Northern Ireland to offer girls the option to wear trousers as part of their uniform.
Education Minister Paul Givan said the revised guidance will allow girls to wear trousers as part of their uniform and also for PE and games.
Sinn Féin MLA Cathy Mason has described the decision as a “welcome but embarrassing U-turn by the minister”.
Education Committee chairman Nick Mathison said the minister will have to explain why he “took so long to move on this issue”.
The guidelines are legally binding under the School Uniforms Act which came into operation earlier this year.

I think that song was also alright, but of the two that performer won with, it’s the weaker one for sure. Can’t say if it was a worthy winner because I haven’t got a clue about what other songs competed that year.
Sweden also did poorly with a song I thought was alright. I think it deserved better.
Ukraine had the Budapest Memorandum and a strong military. Didn’t help much, especially when one of the guarantees refused to help and the other being the perpetrator.
What triggered the war IMHO was when Russias puppet Yanukovych was removed from power. It was then clear that Ukraine wanted to move west, and Russia wouldn’t have any of that.
And NATO.
Russia using potential NATO membership as an excuse to invade Ukraine is just that, an excuse. Ukraine was turning west, and Russia couldn’t accept that.
Everyone. The US is a huge and important market and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Let’s not be delusional.
I expect companies will see trading with the US as more of a risk now, and take measures like requiring a premium, but trade with the US will continue, just by the sheer size of the US market.

Probably yes, but I don’t know enough about the Hansa to weigh in. But from what I can remember conquest wasn’t a part of it. It was a trade and defense arrangement that you joined voluntarily.
The Hansa was something of a proto-EU.
This is even weirder imho, these are nationalists (Scots, Welsh, N.Irish) becoming independent from the UK and then joining the EU. I don’t mind, I just don’t understand. Generally nationalists tend to be more against joining the EU or other supranational entities.
Not so sure, I had a chat with both mistral and anthropic recently and while lagging, mistral has some interesting offerings.
But the US and China are clear leaders in this space due to huge investments that we can’t/won’t match.

Might be a little more anonymous than Visa, but not as anonymous as cash. The bank will still be able to see where you buy, but probably not what. Swish is like WERO in that it uses your phone number, so yeah, if you get a payment you can see their number.
It probably won’t work on uncertified phones, but also because it uses BankID, the digital-id card everyone uses. If anything, the bank-id is the bigger problem because you basically can’t function in Sweden without one.

Sad but not unexpected. The EU doesn’t do influence operations but its adversaries does. I will not be surprised when it comes out that both Russia and the US invested heavily in getting Iceland to vote no.

Sweden will adopt the euro eventually, and Denmark is already using it, but with an extra step. So we just need Norway to join the euro and we’re golden.
I think the main question is a political one.

Agreed, this looks very bad. One of the guys being elected is shady as fuck and was denied asylum because of it, then somehow became a Swedish citizen. He’s declared bankrupcy yet somehow manages to fly back and forth to Somalia to strike “business deals”. I’m not happy about this at all.
