Violent crime is extremely low and on the decline in Rome but authorities these days take any rare incident to enact strong measures that restrict our freedoms anywhere.
The hope is that this red zone will be gone in a month or two but it wouldn‘t surprise me to see a permanent increase in surveillance, police presence and searches based on racial profiling.
It has declined over the years but after Covid, crime levels slowly increased again year on year. Crime levels are higher than e.g. Amsterdam, Paris or Berlin.
The place with an openly fascist leader has seen an increase in crime? Wow! I am shocked
