For context: they payed 2,6 billion € in dividends to shareholders this year.
Money that could have been invested into the future of the company.

The best car we ever owned was a 2007 Tiguan so when we went to shop for an electric car for my wife we made sure to check theirs out. I’m not surprised they’re failing. We looked at an ID3 because she wants a small one and it was more expensive than the others we looked at and it had far fewer features. My wife can’t park for shit and the ID3 didn’t even have 360 degree cameras as an option, never mind self-park (something our 2007 Tiguan had).
It felt fast, I’ll give it that, but other than that it just felt stingy and barebones, not to mention it’s ugly. The inside felt like some Scandinavian minimalist thing, but it felt cold and empty rather than cosy; I was half expecting an echo. All the trim was just plain plastic with no textures or anything. The computer was crap and the voice control was annoying. The sales guy was talking like the car would sell itself but we walked away with no interest in it whatsoever.
Then we looked at a Suzuki, which was basically a Toyota, and it was two grand cheaper for a car that was less than six months old and had 360 degree cameras. It had all the features (except self-parking) and felt much more premium.
As a Scandinavian maybe that’s part of the reason why I love our ID.4. 😋
We bought a 4 year old ID.4, and I’m honestly astounded by how good the quality is, there are absolutely zero “sounds” that aren’t supposed to be there. And the handling is amazing, something it is also widely praised for.
We bought the top ID.4 available here which is called ID 4 Pro Tech, it has absolutely all the extras available including 360° camera.
The main criticism I’ve seen in reviews is that it only has 3 buttons for the windows instead of 4. So 1 button selects front or rear, and the 2 buttons are then used to control either left or right window. That saves a whopping 1 button! At the cost of being way more clumsy to operate. Personally that has also turned out to be 1 of my biggest complaints, not because it’s a big issue, but because it’s just so stupid IMO.
Glad you found a car you and your wife liked, we are pretty spoiled with options here in Europe compared to many other markets.
Strange, I use the self-park in the pre facelift ID3 regularly. So it should available as an option.
But yeah, the interior has some strange design decisions, like no backlight for the temp controls.
Oh no, a large conglomerate that got caught openly lying and lobbied hard to keep things as they were for its own short term profits, is now struggling when faced with a changing world and new competition. Best they can do is buy back their own stocks and close factories, I guess.
