China criticises idea it is in 'malicious competition' over AI
It follows the Anthropic CEO's calls for a slowdown in AI development - but in a way that prevents China from pulling ahead in the race.
This is true I’ve read articles about how the Chinese government is working on legal models to make AI “safe for children”.
It’s ironic in these times of asymmetric warfare beating traditional war machinery at a fraction of the price.
It’s kind of the same the Chinese is doing on AI. USA is building huge datacenters concentrated around the forecasts for less than a handful of AI companies. While China is building AI into everything, and are working on making AI work decentralized to be useful in way more task specific circumstances and way cheaper.
Maybe the 2 can coexist? But I think the American approach is overkill, and a lot of people will lose a lot of money they invested in that shit.
So I don’t think the competition from China is designed to be malicious or disruptive, it has grown out from a different set of circumstances and necessity, because USA has been denying China the necessary chips to perform well with the American approach. Making it near impossible for China to work with American companies especially suppliers. Which China did until American politicians ruined it.
China is building AI for everybody to use everywhere. While USA is attempting to monopolize AI services within monolithic services controlled by a few gigantic companies.
I think safety is also easier to implement with the Chinese model, that doesn’t attempt to create AGI or Strong AI as we used to call it. But is creating AI that works well for what it was designed for.
The US approach isn’t overkill. It’s brainless corporatism, favoring capitalists running corpos over its own populace. Not that I’m a fan of Xi or China’s politics (lol ‘communism’ with a ruling party lmfao), but the US is a broken state ran by pedophiles and lobbyists.
It’s a sad reality that it can now be debatable which is worse. But here we are.
We’re burning out own country down at the moment, China just needs to not sit the bed and they’re gaurantee to be the dominate superpower. And we are not being honest with ourselves about that. Or government food the most competent people in every position across the board. Replaced them with yes men, and then started a massive war that none of us is willing to sacrifice for to win… the world is about to do the petro dollar and that will being more hardship or way.
