After a long research journey I ended up with the Mobapad M12 S. A bit surprised how few mainstream media sites gave any coverage to Joycon replacements. But the small YouTuber community was a buzz with how great these were. So I took the plunge and spent my own money.

Spoiler alert: they’re not.

I’ve had the controllers for over a month now and the experience has never gotten better than awkward. And I really wish I could get my money back.

Let’s start with the build quality. On first glance it seems pretty sturdy. Initially the controllers even remove the screen flex that the official Joycon exhibit. However within days of heavy gaming I noticed issues. The Joycon stared to flex on the switch (magnets weakened I guess ?), scratches and smudges all over the joy con handles from basic use. Worse yet the (overly clicky) buttons started to get stuck and not register presses. Leading to some issues in games.

It’s been pretty well stated on the M12s that vibration motor isn’t as good as HD rumble. What most people neglected to mention is the games still treat the normal motors as HD motors. Meaning you get long drawn out and loud vibrations that sound and feel awful. Some games are worse than others but they are all terrible.

Ergonomics which is suppose to be a key selling point for devices like this are also not great. The placement of the buttons like screenshot, home and even their custom macro buttons are all to close together. It’s far too easy to accidentally hit the wrong button. The custom buttons in the back of the controller are placed right where your grip and I accidentally click them all the time. The buttons issue led to a scenario where I somehow set a macro to screenshot and enabled turbo. Which lead to my memory card filling up with screenshots taken every second. Spent an hour deleting photos.

The joystick, standard buttons and shoulder buttons for me are still awkwardly placed. I still feel fatigue and cramping with any long play sessions. Especially if I’m playing lying in bed. No matter what I tired I still felt like I wasn’t able to hold the controller comfortably and play. Especially in games like Metroid prime and StarFox.

Even the joysticks supposedly “TMR” also have issues with travel and centering. Not to mention the Mobapad sticks travel pale in comparison to the pro controller sticks which aren’t TMR. Meaning in games which require more precise stick control have issues. You will still hit walls avoiding things in StarFox you will still hit walls you shouldn’t in MarioKart.

The M12S can be found on sale for 80 bucks much of the time. But MSRPs for as much as the switch 2 Joycon do. And considering what you are getting I think it’s far too expensive for something that feels this cheap.

Reading that the Nyxi controllers have durability issues and Crked just a grip that uses Bluetooth. I feel confident saying at this point there is no true pro Joycon controller that’s worth purchasing yet in 2026.

Also do not listen to the small switch controller YouTube community. Save your money for now and do lots of research!

So I saw political compass memes a while ago and started making one, but then I started taking it too seriously and eventually turned it into a tier list. This whole thing is a png export of a pure svg image. For some of the logos, I had to make them either from scratch or by using gimp and inkscape to convert a png into an svg (imperfect but good enough).

A 30-year-old Polish software developer has built an iPhone app that detects Meta smart glasses in the vicinity and estimates how far away they are by reading the Bluetooth signals the glasses broadcast. It has around 5,000 users a month after launch.

I built Versentry to scratch my own itch: I run Docker across several self-hosted boxes and wanted to know when images have updates - without anything auto-pulling or restarting my containers behind my back.

Before that, I used WUD, but at the time Versentry was created, it didn’t have a proxy for Telegram notifications, which was the impetus. As a result, I ended up with a micro‑service that fully meets my needs.

What it does: reads running containers from the local Docker socket, compares their tags and digests against OCI registries, and sends a notification when something’s newer. It never pulls images or touches containers. That’s the whole point - notify-only by design.

A few things that set it apart:

• Central tag-filter rules in config (regex by image repo), so you’re not forced to label every container. Per-container versentry.include labels also work if you prefer them.
• Built-in proxy (SOCKS5/HTTP) for notifier delivery and registry traffic - handy behind network restrictions.
• Any OCI registry - Docker Hub, GHCR, Quay, GitLab out of the box; private/self-hosted via type: oci.
• Notifiers: stdout, Telegram, Discord, Gotify, ntfy, and a generic webhook.
• Readable notifications out of the box - sensible default messages, no template-wrangling required; Go text/template overrides are there if you want to customize.
• semver/numeric detection (cross-major updates get flagged) plus digest comparison for floating tags like latest.
• Tiny ~5 MB scratch-based image, MIT licensed.

It’s probably not for you if you need: a web UI (try WUD), automatic pull-and-restart (that’s Watchtower’s job), non-Docker providers like Kubernetes/Podman (Diun covers more), or Slack/email as first-class notifiers.

It’s a young project - fewer battle-tested deployments than the established tools - so I’d genuinely welcome feedback from anyone who runs it.

• Meta has run more than 300 paid ads containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) this year, a TTP investigation found.

• Most of the ads showed a photo of a child, which is digitally altered with AI to make it appear the child is performing a sex act.

• TTP identified multiple photos of real children, including a member of a European royal family, that were used in the ads.
• Several of the CSAM ads were placed by Meta’s own advertising partners in China, including a Chinese state-controlled company.
• The vast majority of the ads pointed to AI apps from China. Many of these apps were capable of “nudifying” people.

I have a minipc with proxmox on it. I have tried caddy in a lxc to set up DNS challenges to my owned domain and I set the url in my router to point to the IP (for example, proxmox.DOMAIN.com could be 192.168.10.22). The hope was to have everything local within my house and nothing needs the internet to be accessed. Some services I can host in proxmox NEED https to use, which I could not get working with my own certs or ones proxmox could make, thus Caddy. However, I get proxmox with a proper cert, but i cannot get any of the other services from proxmox working. If I were doing it all manually, I would expect DNS issues with the domain, but from what I understand, Caddy by default does wildcard domains which should mean that my services should work. but they do not. Networking is new to me so perhaps I am missing something obvious. Any guidance would be appreciated.

EDIT: You guys helped me find my issue! Turns out that I did everything right except for 1 simple step. Once I have everything set up, I have my router point the urls to the CADDY address, not the services address. For example, I had bookmarks.DOMAIN.com set in my router to point at the readeck lxc ip and it didn’t work. Changing that to the Caddy ip fixed it. So all my services would point to the same ip (caddy). I do not know how I never saw this in any of the tutorials/videos/guides I checked, but THANK YOU for pointing it out to me.
Now the only odd thing is why does the proxmox ip work fine without pointing to caddy? I will leave it as is, but its the odd one out :/

Amazon is buying massive quantities of books, scanning them for AI training data, and destroying them in the process.

A 404 Media investigation was able to reveal Amazon’s book buying operation, which hasn’t been previously reported, by placing a tracking device in a rare book we suspected would be acquired by an AI company for training data, and following it around the country to its final destination.

That final destination was an Amazon warehouse in Las Vegas, Nevada. Amazon employees who work at this location say all they do is receive massive shipments of printed books which they then cut the bindings off in order to scan the books more quickly. The printed book is destroyed in the process. The logo of the Amazon team that works at this warehouse, called VGT3, is a dinosaur, brandishing its teeth and with a book in its hands.

“Amazon purchases books through commercial channels to help develop and improve the products and services our customers use,” an Amazon spokesperson told me in a statement.

The world’s AI companies are constantly looking for, and spending extreme resources to locate, more material to train their AI models. With books, that sometimes means destroying them in the process, something that large parts of the public have spoken up against, and which we can now confirm Amazon is doing.

In July, I published a story about booksellers who reported a historical spike in sales starting in the past year. They suspected this spike in sales was due to AI companies acquiring any books they can in search of new training data. Printed books are valuable as training data because a lot of the text they contain is not readily available on the internet, which AI companies have already scraped. The data is also conveniently organized and, if the book was printed before 2022, is guaranteed to be free of AI-generated text, which can make any AI model that is trained on it worse via a recursive process called “model collapse.”

These booksellers suspected AI companies were behind these large bulk purchases because of the high number of books they were buying, the seemingly random choice of books, and the fact that these buyers, unlike libraries and universities, did not seem price sensitive at all. But booksellers couldn’t say for certain who was behind the large purchases because the marketplaces where they sell their books keep the buyers anonymous. When an order comes in, a bookseller ships the sold books to a warehouse operated by the marketplaces, where books are sorted and then sent to the buyer.

In July, one bookseller told me they received a very large order of around 1,000 books on Biblio, one of these marketplaces. The seller agreed to put an Apple AirTag provided by 404 Media in one of the books included in this order so we could see where the book was going. And by extension, which company, AI or otherwise, was behind this massive order. 404 Media granted the bookseller anonymity because they worried sharing this information would harm their business. Biblio did not respond to a request for comment.
