Earlier this week, Gamers Nexus, Level1Techs, and independent security researchers detailed some alarming findings about how LG’s TVs are logging and uploading data on its users. Now the company is pushing back against those allegations, saying that “Some recent media coverage may have contributed to misconceptions about how LG smart TVs work.”

LG released a statement in which it claims that its “TVs do not continuously record or transmit users’ conversations,” and that wake-word detection is all processed locally. However, the word “continuously” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here as Gamers Nexus demonstrated an LG TV keeping extensive logs of ambient conversations long after one would assume its AI assistant had stopped listening.

LG also said that its features like “Automatic Content Recognition (ACR), voice recognition, and interest-based advertising are optional,” and “not enabled by default.” The company says that:

ACR uses audio fingerprinting technology using the TV’s internal audio processor (not a speaker) to identify content and does not collect screenshots, screen recordings, video recordings, voice recordings, or other audio recordings from the TV.

The company did not address broader concerns about how much data it collects, who it shares it with, the potential for bad actors to exploit its features, or the misleading way in which its privacy options are presented.

Today’s game is Assassin’s Creed 3. I have finally done it. I 100% the Base Game. I thought for sure it would be about the same as revelations was. I was wrong. It was a whole lot more work. I’d say the 2 worst parts were the Encyclopedia of the Common Man and the 100% Sync. The Encyclopedia namely involved just a lot of waiting around which was horrible. I got it though. And I’m finally ready to move onto The Tyranny of King Washington.

Which I finally started today actually. It’s interesting getting to play this. I built up this image of what the game would be like in my head when I was younger but never got to play it. Getting to play it now is interesting. It mainly reminds me a lot of Red Dead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare, with the whole alternate time line shenanigans.

I’m hoping Haytham shows up but my hopes aren’t very high. Just something about the way he’s briefly mentioned and moved on from makes me feel like he won’t really have a role here which sucks. But is also understandable with how short it seems to be. Doesn’t appear to be much space to cram him in. Still. I hope I’m wrong.

Anyways. I ended my play session today by getting the first wolf ability. I honestly think it’s kind of cool. Obviously not something that fits in the base game, but having the ability to turn invisible and take out enemies is honestly really cool. I’m a big fan of mechanics like that so I’m glad to have it. Tomorrow I’ll have to try and get more used to it because it’s a lot of fun to use.

As I start to host more and more services on my home server, my family and friends are interested in using some of the services I host as well. Up to now, all of my services have been internal-only, and my wife and I just use Tailscale to access everything. Getting others set up with tailscale isn’t an issue, but I can only have up to 4 other users before I have to pay to add more, and I have more than 4 people I would like to have access to some of the things I host.

Right now I’m using cloudflare tunnels to make some services available externally. I’m behind CGNAT, so I’m forced to use something like tunnels or similar. I’ve always read that if you are going to open things up externally to use a reverse proxy (which I use internally), but does this still apply with cloudflare tunnels? What else should I be looking at to make sure I have everything secured properly?

WonderThunder has archived the entirety of Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls in an offline capacity, uploading their work to The Internet Archive. Currently, the game can only be played on macOS, but WonderThunder suggests that Windows, iOS, and perhaps Android versions will be available in the future, preserving one of the smaller pieces of the Castlevania continuity for future generations. The Stop Killing Games folks will love this.

CounterSide is a gacha game. It died on August 26th this year. However, some modders have provided infrastructure to host your own local server, so it can still be played.

You can also use console commands to give yourself however many gacha pulls, other currency, or gear you want. The story is fully playable, so the game can be treated like a single player RPG.

Some of the gamemodes don’t work right (I hear Dive is broken), but the important stuff like the main story, side stories, and combat work fine.

The infrastructure that handles launching the server is here, though you will need to grab the assets (which the infrastructure calls a frozen client) elsewhere. The non-Steam variant seems to work best, though YMMV.

I’m looking at dusting off my motion setup. It was an old setup to monitor what my pets are doing in the house with a webcam.

However, I need cameras outside to monitor my gardens and the webcams are not really usefull for that (for one, the’re not waterproof and USB cams)

I try to look for stand alone cameras, but can’t find a good test of them. (probably user error) Any tips on good, safe, cameras for outside? (pref poe, wifi when it can’t be avoided, not battery powered)
