Full title: How Russian propaganda is ‘poisoning’ AI chatbots to spout lies | ChatGPT and its rivals have been manipulated by a Kremlin unit that purports to be a human rights group as it opens a new front in the misinformation war

Hi everyone,

I recently got offered a job (or not quite yet, but in the process) for a European digital forensics and e-discovery company. The position sounds really fun and exciting and really what I am looking for, but I don’t know if I can reconcile it with my privacy concerns and my moral concerns that we are turning further and further into a surveillance state.

Here are some of the products and companies they are using / working with:

And many more similar tools. Do you think I am overreacting? Would you ever consider working for a company like that? It almost feels like a European version of Palantir. When remarking my concerns in the interview, the interviewer was very surprised about that question (which in turn really surprised me…). The “justification” he gave me, to reassure me, did not do a good job either:

• 95% of their customers are state actors, i.e. national police departmenty. As I said, it’s not the US, so my image of our police is not quite as bad, but still it’s not like I view government agencies , justice system, or the police as the “ultimate good guys” that I trust with everything.
• “Things like unlocking and searching through some evidence like a phone is not surveillance, since it is not live” - maybe I misunderstood something there because to me that argument makes zero sense

I’m a little torn, because I believe that digital forensics is obviously a very important tool for solving crimes and is clearly already part of reality. But building such powerful tools with access to so many sources of data requires an amount of trust that I currently cannot say I have into any entity really. And that’s ignoring all the AI that all these tools use internally too.

Sorry for the rant, I am just curious what this community thinks about this industry? Even though I can already guess 😉 I’m just having a hard time rejecting a potentially really good job offer.

I’m looking for a server I can host in my home that has a simple ui where I can put in URLs for download and have them all show up on my Jellyfin. Bonus if there is VPN support.

Today’s game is Project Zomboid. It was just me and my friend who plays Cable on today. Our plan was originally too just finish working on the back end of the log wall we were building, but jerry accidentally smashed a window and got a laceration. He got it cleaned up, but he was in immense pain.

I went to go find painkillers, and that’s when i found out we didn’t have any… So i took Jerry around the Neighborhood and found this Hospital. I ransacked it a bit and even found a van key even to let me haul stuff home. I got more than enough medical supplies to last me a while. I even stocked up on stuff for bullet wounds in case we have any mishaps messing around.

While Jerry was searching, Cable made dinner, which was ready when Jerry got home. Cable doesn’t usually handle cooking because usually he’ll start a fire. Surprisingly this time though he didn’t. The Pasta even didn’t make Jerry depressed, which is a new record.

For the entire next hour or so, we spent it renovating a room into a medical room. We laid down tile, and i put up a metal cabinet to keep all out supplies in. Then i had to go get planks to put together a bed.

When i went to gather planks for the bed i had found out one of my Chickens had died, it was the chick. I did the only thing i really thought of and buried it. It was a chick so it’s not like it could really feed us, and it had been dead for a while and i hadn’t noticed.

After that i went and finished the bed and stopped playing for the day. I didn’t want to play too much without our other players after all.

A few weeks ago Rayfish was released and only worked on PCs. But today I checked and noticed V2 was out. I updated my V1 on my PC and then installed it on my phone.

I had to restart the network on my PC to refresh the VPN networks I had already created. I setup a searcXNG on my PC just to try some sort of server. Next I created a firewall rule for that port on the rayfish network and another rule for the network on my Linux firewall. On rayfish I created a network and an invite code for my phone. On the phone I entered the invite code and was immediately connected. I could then ping from my phone to my PC and viseversa.

Finally I searched for the PCs rayfish IP and just connected to it on my browser on the phone. That worked and I was happy. But then I turned off my WiFi on my phone and clicked refresh… A few seconds later the phone re-connected and I got to my searcXNG!

My outside IP is not fixed and I rely on Cloudflare. But none of my services are actually public and are not planned to be public. So now with rayfish I get a permanent IP for free regardless of what my actual IP is. The possibilities are endless… Big big!

This is very cool! Yeah it’s AI developed, but this is AI for us. It’s clear and well defined for me, AI working for us is small potatoes vs AI the evil resource sucker spy tool. So let’s take advantage. Specifically this project is great and solves my privacy issues with Cloudflare.

Bug Maybe I’m putting it too simply. Any thoughts on this?

So, the EU Digital ID is threatening to kill alt Android and Linux phones, but this is also probably gonna screw over desktops too, because going by how it’s laid out by Mental Outlaw here, desktops could start being required to run Win11 with Pluton enforcement to comply with this, which would not only lock out Linux and BSD desktops, but also older desktops in general which can’t run Win11, and even older desktops which can run Win11 but are too old to support Pluton, meaning just like you have to buy a new Google or Apple phone to comply with this, you’d also have to buy a new Win11 desktop or laptop as well.

I’ve been hearing about these for a few years now. Huge if they work out at a large scale.

The top three solutions come from independent researchers. The best solution was built by a group of PhDs and professors, who released a corresponding paper. They all make use of some form of world-model.

I’ve generally been a skeptic, and I still am, but this news surprised me because I expected ARC-AGI-3 to remain difficult for a long while.

Note that the scores are self-reported and need to be independently verified. The solutions have not been tested against the larger private test set.

Primer on ARC-AGI-3:

ARC-AGI-3 is an interactive reasoning benchmark which challenges AI agents to explore novel environments, acquire goals on the fly, build adaptable world models, and learn continuously.

A 100% score means AI agents can beat every game as efficiently as humans.

Instead of solving static puzzles, agents must learn from experience inside each environment—perceiving what matters, selecting actions, and adapting their strategy without relying on natural-language instructions.

If you watched the the show for Re zero you wouldn’t see what I’m talking about but it extremely clear in the web novel that Subaru is just a trans woman.

I plan on making a detailed post about this later and even a youtube video but just as a small thing;

in the very first volume of the web novel Subaru rants about how he misses being a kid because of how feminine he was, his long hair made everyone treat him like a girl and he then explicitly says that this was before puberty ruined his life.

then later when we get his back story its explained that he started high school cross dressing felt like his “real self” for the first time and was happy until his voice outted him as cross dressing.

His tragic back story is literally male puberty.

Im saying this mostly because how Subaru is written becomes really sad when you read some of ther Q and A stuff the author is on record saying.

Tappie the author of re zero was be on record saying (and this is paraphrased “I wrote Emila to be naive and child like because to me childhood and innocence represents people being their true selves, after puberty people are forced to give up their true selves to fit into society and this goes doubly so for men its my to me the ultimate expression of being who you really are can only be experienced by women”

“Subaru cross dressing has nothing to do with them being gay, Cross dressing is a normal thing guys like doing Subaru is just really good at it, their wont be any lgbt relationships or characters in re zero”

Like I understand this might just be a thing where it sound way worse because this is not the original japanese but just the general idea is still crazy.

All this added with the fact that his two biggest projects are pretty on the nose representations of dysphoria especially VIVI and them writting only female protaganists outside of subaru who himself is constantly said to be more like his mom than his dad.

i dont know it just feels like so many japanese mangaka are have these half way to being trans characters
