Flock Safety has been facing scrutiny amid concerns about privacy and police misuse of its surveillance technology.
He should just point a flock camera at his house. Then he’ll be 80% safer based on a study I just made up like the ones on their sales pitch.
Even better, a group should cut down several dozen of them and mount them all on poles outside his house during the night, so that he wakes up to them in the morning. No vandalism, no violence, no threats, just a blunt statement that the media couldn’t possibly ignore.
Heck, no need to even risk collecting that many real ones. I hear there’s some fairly decent 3D printed fakes available.

No. I did not. Relocation of the asset to the owners property means there’s no intent to deprive the owner of said property which means that it’s not theft.
The property has not been defaced, damaged, or destroyed so that means there’s no intent of vandalism. Therefore vandalism did not take place.

I made a singular allowance in the case that the pole was cut (which counts as damage), rather than being dug up (which wouldn’t), which you appear to have ignored.

A lawyer worth their salt should absolutely defend you against a vandalism charge if by the lawful definition no vandalism took place.
Not only that, but a lawyer’s job is to make sure the law is followed during legal proceedings. Meaning they are supposed to defend your right to a lawfully handled trial which would include dismissing charges that didn’t fit the crime committed.

Flock owns the cameras. It’s a subscription model where the municipality actually leases the camera and “retains ownership” of the footage/data the collect.
So by rights the CEO having them dropped off on his property could be considered the same as them being returned to the owner.
You can take that however you want. But vandalism has a specific legal definition.

Flock Safety is only the tip of the problem.
Some districts are de-Flocking only to install an Axon ALPR network service. Keep fighting until your community outlaws all ALPRs and ALPR lookups are inadmissable in court.
There are other technologies that are already in use and widely abused by law enforcement such as IMSI catchers, geofence warrants and Drones as First Responder. Learn what your district allows and be a civil nuisance untill that shit is blocked.
Judges have long ceased tightly constraining judicial warrants, and most courts accept the good faith exception, so US and state courts cannot be trusted with any overreaching surveillance technology or forensic tools. This includes chromatic field drug tests and detection dogs.

Not-a-lawyer, but I’m quite sure I haven’t signed any TOS allowing Flock to capture or retain my data for any amount of time. Just by driving through a city where some other idiot signed away my rights probably shouldn’t hold up in court.
Legislation should be prioritizing punishing misuse of PII, expanding what PII means in our modern world, and enforcing information sharing barriers instead of eroding them.
If you can tell exactly where I was yesterday at 2:35pm because my car’s internal spyware pinged, my cellphone pinged, I drove past a few ALPR cameras and my credit card was used at a vendor, all without a warrant; then the related data is PII and needs to be protected in a way it isn’t currently.
Corporations should not have data-sharing agreements with governments and should not be allowed to sell their user data to third parties at all.
I work for a city that installed flock cameras. Their salesman insisted it was just license plate identification and nothing else when making the pitch to City Council.
The new city manager and I recently read through our “contract” with them. It’s a hyperlink to their TOS on their website. We have nothing in writing and they can change the terms any time they want.
I expect Council to have them removed soon.

Also not a lawyer, but once a journalist, and one thing we were made aware of in college was that streets were public property, and anything done on them (or even done from the view of them - e.g., in your house but visible from the street*) was considered public. So unfortunately even if the city hadn’t signed it, if someone recorded you on the street doing it, they could keep it on their servers and/or publish it to the world without worry.
* - I meant to ask but never found out if this meant getting drunk in your house in view of the street is public drunkenness.
